Motor Vehicle insurance.

Yes. This is required by law in order to drive any vehicle legally on the road. You must be able to cover your liability or responsibility to other people, referred to as “third parties”, if you’re in an accident.

Third party insurance meets all the legal requirements to have your vehicle on the road. Third party insurance covers your legal liability to others if you cause harm to them or damage to their property.

Comprehensive insurance includes all the benefits of a third party policy, plus additional coverage for your vehicle.

Yes, we need the proposal form to gather information from you, the person requesting insurance. It gives us an opportunity to determine whether or not to accept the risk of insuring you. It also helps us set the premium to be charged and any other terms we need to impose.

Yes. You may cancel your policy at any time by sending us an email at sales@bcicjamaica.com

You may be entitled to a refund of premium. It depends on the length of time that the policy was running for, and whether we’ve made a claim payment under your policy.

The excess is the portion of any claim, which you must pay before we will pay. It can be a fixed amount, or expressed as a percentage of the value of your vehicle or settlement amount.

The excess applies to every claim you make under your policy. Other insurers sometimes refer to it as the “deductible”.

The policy excess applies to each claim you make.

We deduct the excess from the amount of your actual loss. The balance left is the amount you will receive.

A certificate of insurance is a document issued by an insurance company which provides proof of insurance in accordance with the Motor Vehicles (Third Party Risks) Law, CAP.257. It shows that you have complied with the law.

A cover note serves the same purpose as a certificate, but is a temporary insurance document for a maximum of thirty days.

We may issue you a cover note while preparing the more permanent document, the certificate of insurance.

A No Fault Discount is one way that insurers reward safe drivers.

It is a discount on your annual insurance premium that you earn each year that you don’t claim on your insurance for an incident where you’re at fault. Each year you don’t make a claim, the discount increases. The maximum No Fault Discount is usually earned after five years.

A No Fault Discount or No Claim Discount can be transferred from one company to the next, from one vehicle to another and between countries. Usually, this requires an original letter from your previous insurer as proof.

Yes, they’re covered under your policy as long as their driver’s licence allows them to drive the kind of vehicle you have insured.

However, if they’re in an accident, you’ll have to pay an increased excess because of their age and driving experience.

Your insurance certificate will state clearly who is authorized to drive your vehicle. If it says any person driving with your permission is covered, then your insurance is valid if you lend that vehicle to someone – as long as they hold a valid driver’s licence.

However, if they’re in an accident, you may have to pay an increased excess, depending on the driver’s age and experience.

If you have a comprehensive Private Car policy, we’ll compensate you for your personal effects up to a specified amount. These personal effects may include, for example, your:

Your insurance policy provides protection against third party liabilities, up to the maximum amount stated in your policy. If a judgment against you in a court of law requires you to pay an amount greater than the amount in your policy, you’ll be responsible for paying the difference.

Yes. You can make a single windscreen claim in each policy year without it affecting your No Fault Discount.

If you have comprehensive insurance, we’ll reimburse the amount you spend on wrecker fees. This is subject to the maximum amount allowed in your insurance policy.
