Electric Vehicle (EV) Insurance.

Our electric vehicle policy covers:

• battery electric vehicles (BEVs)
  • BEVs use all-electric batteries that don’t depend on regular fuel
• plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)
  • PHEVs use both an electric battery and a fuel-powered battery. The vehicle’s primary source of power is the electric battery. The fuel-powered battery will only come into play when the electric battery is empty.

We insure hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) under our regular private motor policy, instead of this EV policy.

• HEVs use fuel-powered engines with electric power to save on fuel consumption. The electric battery is charged through regenerative braking and only provides enough power for driving at lower speeds.

Like our Private Car policy, our EV policy helps to protect your vehicle against loss or damage. It also protects you from liability for accidents involving that vehicle. 

We also offer a wide range of benefits specific to EVs, including:

• cover for damaged batteries
• replacement for lost key fobs
• a free loaner car while your EV is being repaired
• replacement of charging equipment.

If your car is damaged, we’ll give you a replacement vehicle for up to 2 weeks while your electric vehicle is being repaired. We’ll do this for free as part of your EV policy, as long as the damage to your vehicle is covered by the policy. 

We’ll only give this benefit if one of the following applies: 

• you have reported a claim to us
• the cost of repairs is greater than your policy excess 
• your vehicle is not driveable.

BCIC ASSIST, our emergency roadside and accident service, provides help in case of emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, and other roadside situations.

BCIC ASSIST is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including public holidays). It’s also available islandwide, even if your EV breaks down at home. BCIC ASSIST covers services such as:

• getting a wrecker to carry your vehicle to the nearest repair facility
• changing a tyre
• getting a spare key or a locksmith to unlock the vehicle 
• and more.

If your electric vehicle needs towing, you must get a flatbed towing truck (wrecker) to transport your vehicle on its flatbed. We won’t cover loss or damage arising from towing by any other means.
